Frequently Asked Questions
What are the longest-lasting flowers?
Anthuriums will last from 7 to 14 days depending on care and variety. Dendrobium Orchids will last from 5 to 8 days, while Oncidium Orchids will last 7 to 10 days. Tropicals vary widely, but should last up to 5 days for the most delicate, 8 days for the hardier types. All of this depends not only on the flower care in the home, but also the climatic conditions.
What flowers are easiest to arrange?
The Orchids are the very easiest, simply place in a vase and they will naturally arch and fill the space beautifully.
Can I make my own flower arrangements and boutonnieres?
If you are someone who has done flower arrangements before (or you have a willing friend or wedding consultant who has) you might consider creating your own wedding flowers. The benefits are of course that you could save a considerable amount of money and that you'll be sure of having creative control to get what you want.
Keep in mind that your job will entail more than just arranging the flowers. You'll need to remove outer petals, work to open the flowers at the right time, and keep them watered and misted. You'll typically get the flowers three days before you need to have them, so that you have time to force them open and care for them. You'll need a cool dark place for this time.
When you're thinking about how much this will save you, consider that you'll need to purchase not only the flowers, but also containers for both caring for them and for arranging them, floral tape, wire, and oasis, and other incidentals. In the end, it may be easier and not much more expensive to find an inexpensive florist who is willing to work within your budget.
Why are flowers such a big part of a wedding or any event?
For me, flowers are one of the most important aspects of a wedding or any event. They bring color, life, and aroma. They help make table settings more beautiful, and can transform a formerly dull space into a beautiful personality-filled one.
How can I have an affordable wedding?
Everyone has a different idea of the perfect wedding, so before you even begin to get into the details, you need to sit down with your partner and determine what is important to both of you. As you begin to find out what aspects of the wedding are most important, you’ll then have a list of priorities that will be used to determine how much money to spend.
